Frequently Asked

Questions about traveling to Afghanistan

01
Is it safe to travel to Afghanistan right now?
Afghanistan remains a challenging destination that requires professional planning. Our team conducts daily security assessments, maintains relationships with local authorities, and designs routes that prioritize your safety. We only operate tours when we can ensure appropriate risk mitigation measures are in place. Every itinerary includes security briefings, vetted transport, and 24/7 emergency support.
02
What type of accommodation can I expect?
We work with a curated network of hotels and guesthouses that meet our standards for cleanliness, security, and reliability. In Kabul and Herat, expect comfortable 3-4 star hotels with private bathrooms and WiFi. In Bamyan and regional areas, accommodation is simpler but clean and well-maintained. We always have backup options and conduct regular quality checks.
03
Do I need a visa, and can you help me get one?
Yes, most nationalities require a visa to enter Afghanistan. We provide invitation letters, sponsor documentation, and step-by-step guidance for the application process. Visa requirements and processing times vary by nationality and embassy, so we recommend starting 6-8 weeks before your departure date. Our team has extensive experience supporting travelers through this process.
04
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
We understand that travel to Afghanistan requires flexibility. Cancellations more than 60 days before departure receive a full refund minus a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations 30-60 days prior forfeit 50% of the tour cost. Cancellations within 30 days or no-shows forfeit the full amount. If we cancel a tour due to security concerns, you receive a full refund or can transfer to a future departure. Travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage is mandatory.
05
Can I take photographs and videos during the tour?
Photography is generally permitted at tourist sites and natural attractions. However, restrictions apply at military installations, government buildings, and in some conservative areas. Our guides will advise you on local sensitivities and help obtain permissions when needed. For professional media production, we offer specialized filming permits and coordination services.
06
What level of fitness is required for your tours?
Our 8-day Highlights tour requires moderate fitness—you should be comfortable walking 2-4 hours per day on uneven terrain at moderate altitude. The 13-day Grand Adventure involves longer drives and higher elevations, so good cardiovascular fitness is recommended. Custom tours can be adapted to various fitness levels. We always maintain a comfortable pace with rest breaks and optional activities.
07
How do I book a tour and what deposit is required?
To reserve your place, we require a 30% deposit with the balance due 45 days before departure. You can pay by bank transfer or credit card (3% processing fee applies). After receiving your deposit, we send a detailed pre-departure pack with visa guidance, packing lists, emergency contacts, and cultural briefings. For custom tours, we first design your itinerary and provide a quote before any payment is required.
08
What currency should I bring and are ATMs available?
The official currency is the Afghani (AFN), but US dollars are widely accepted. We recommend bringing clean, new USD bills in small denominations ($1, $5, $10, $20). ATMs are unreliable and often out of service, so bring enough cash for your entire trip plus emergency funds. Credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels. Your guide can assist with currency exchange at fair rates.
